Something To Note Regarding The Social Security Debate

This is what I wrote in my explanation of why I am a conservative (Republican) :

Before I conclude, I would like to give you another view of the differences between Conservatives and Liberals. An even bigger overall picture as to the differences between Conservatives and Liberals, is the fact that in every discussion, in every topic, Conservatives trust the person more, and Liberals trust the Government more. Let’s take the 2000 election as an example. There were three main issues,

Education:

Conservatives: Give parents choices (vouchers).
Liberals: More money for the government sponsored method.

Taxes:

Conservatives: More money in the pocket of the citizens (tax cuts).
Liberals: More money for government.

Social Security:

Conservatives: Allow the individuals that so choose, to invest their Social Security investment as they so choose, while those that wish to continue to have the government do it for them, can.
Liberals: Government must be the sole decision maker in Social Security.

You notice how it’s always Conservatives who are looking for the free-market, less government solution, the solutions that teach responsibility? While liberals are always leaning to the socialist, big government solution? History has clearly shown which way we should lean, yet liberals continue to resist.

Who do you trust more, government or the people?

  • AL gore vs. Bush election

Vouchers and charters have been implemented and have failed, you live in CA, you should read about the 60 schools which left 10,000 students scrambling for schools.

During the 2000 election, Al gore did propose a tax cut, and in head to head with President Bushes suscribed cuts, Al gores gave working and poor more money. Bush campaign actually sent out e-mails to New Mexico Republicans seeking a family with a certaint criteria which would reap greater rewards than gores, the criteria was as follows, $35,000 – $70,000, itemize its taxes, have no children in day care, no children in college, no one attending night school, no children younger than age one, and no substantial savings outside of 40k, this selective criteria eliminted 85% of couples in the income range, the 85% would have done better under the Gore tax plan.

leaning socialist? Have you ever visited a socialist nation? we are very far from being a socialist society.

  • *40k = 401k

Can you provide me with info on this? Vouchers, almost universally, have shown great success. In addition, I’ve documented several other instances on my education section.

He did so only after a while into the election, Bush’s tax cuts kinda forced him into that situation.

Even within this last election, the more ‘Democrat’ the candidate was, the less likely he was to support a tax cut. Just look at Howard Dean, arguably the most loved Democrat of the Democratic primaries (loved so much he is now the head of the DNC). He didn’t support even a tax cut for the middle class or poor. He wanted to roll back all of Bush’s tax cuts. Clearly, the less tax party is the Republican party, especially when compared to Democrats.

That is why I said leaning

  • YOu should check out the US Department of Educations finding at
    http://www.ed.gov/rschstat/eval/choice/pcsp-final/execsum.html

Articles about California schools shut down, you can probably google or look for them archived,
Erika Hayasaki (2004) Los Angeles Times, August 16, “Charter Academy Shuts 60 schools”
Sam Dillion (2004) New York Times, September 17, “Collapse of 60 Charter Schools Leaves Californians Scrambling”

The reason Dean wanted to roll back Bushes cuts are because they have pushed us into record deficits, Bush squandered surpluses of Clinton to provide the top 1% (the richest) with their tax cuts. When he could have used that money to perhaps fully fund programs he himslef has proposed. Its clear that the less tax party is also the more deficits, more problems for the further generations party as well.

  • Thanks for the info ReneB. I’ll read up on this, but one thing right off the bat, is the quotes you mention are with regard to charter schools, not necessary public schools. I do know that vouchers, atleast in the form I am referring to them, have not been tried in California. And where they have been tried, they have proven to be a success.

As for Dean, for all the talk he made against the top 1%, he didn’t just want to roll back their taxes, he wanted to roll back everyones. I understand the deficit problem, but rolling back taxes, yes, even for the top 1%, is not the way to solve that problem.

  • Yeah , ive actually want to find more information about vouchers in contrast to charter schools, thanks alot, great blog i like arguing a point rather than joining similar thinking blogs which would just mirror back my ideas.

  • Abortion – let gov’t decide, oops.

  • Yep, just like all other types of murder and injustices, like stealing, rape etc.

Surely you’re not comparing the benign acts of choosing what to do with your own money with the highly controversial issue of abortion.
