well … personally i don’t think they’ve been any more obstructionist than the repubs were to clinton … and this congress has been historic in it’s attempts by the majority party to marginalize the minority. regardless, the poll numbers for both the congress and executive are way way down. if bush is this low in the polls now, where will he be in 2 years when true lame-duckitis sets in??
Difference is that under the current system the minority party is even more of a minority party. In other words, Republicans also control the presidency.
As far as Bush’s numbers goes, I don’t pay much attention to it now, remember, before the 2004 elections Bush also had bad numbers, and he wound up winning the majority vote for the first time since the 80’s (Clinton never won a clear majority).
The important factor is in whether or not Democrats can muster up a candidate who is ‘less bad’ in the poll numbers than the GOP’s candidate.
