Quote Of The Day

“Despite much gushing about how we should “celebrate diversity,” America’s great achievement has not been in having diversity but in taming its dangers that have run amok in many other countries. Americans have by no means escaped diversity’s oppressions and violence, but we have reined them in”.–Thomas Sowell, in a WSJ editorial explaining that diversity itself is the problem in Iraq

    This is a ridiculuos argument.

Its like saying that there are times that people make hateful and vioence inducing comments, so free speech can sometimes be a bad thing. These are both integral parts of the freedoms of our nation. There are some harmful by-products of these freedoms, but the alternatives (government censorship, forced segregation)are far worse than these byproducts. We need to educate people about other cultures not practice segregation.

Spoken by a mouthpiece (Sowell, WSJ) of a political party (Republican)that ran an add the past few weeks that stirs up fears among Whites in a Southern State (Tenn) about an African-American man (Harold Ford)who is going to f**k all the white women.

This 1 year after the head of that same party (Ken Mehlman)apoligized for the Southern Strategy his party practiced for the past 50 years. The one that stoked the irrational fears of whites against blacks.

Sad thing is that it worked, Immediately after that add ran, the Republican opened up a huge lead on what was a really close race. The only race in the country that had polling turn in the republicans favor the past few weeks.

    Michael,

I didn’t think the ad was particularly racist. Sleazy, yes. Very sleazy. But I think that’s par for the course for Republicans this year. Just my two cents.

Michael, you can point to numerous examples throughout the world where there is a large amount of diversity, so the United States is neither unique nor ‘great’ for doing the same.

What does make the United States unique and ‘great’ is the fact that, atleast compared to other areas around the world with a large amount of diversity, we have not seen as much violence because of it.

The Harold Ford ad was tame…..I’m just surprised that in this election season that commercial did not end with a Mexican looking family of 5 with the wife pregnant, and the father saying “He’s still a Democrat, right?” That would have been ruthless. Thats what Harold Ford gets for trying to ride the Dobbs wagon!!!!

Dr. Williams has a word or two on the subject:
