Parents Want Choice

School choice that is.

“100 Texan families camped outside a charter school for two days because parents want to enroll their kids in River Oaks rather than their traditional public school”. LibertyIsForMe has more here.

    Q’vo,

I heard on the radio this morning about Cali’s ruling against home shoolers (the parents need to be licensed educators) and wanted to get your take. What happened? Is it going to be as ominous as it appears? I know it is slightly off topic since this article deals with Texas, pero this is the closest thing to it that is recent.

  2. “Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children,” Justice H. Walter Croskey wrote in a Feb. 28 opinion for the 2nd District Court of Appeal.

This ruling is a joke because the CA constitution says the following:

    ARTICLE 9 EDUCATION

SECTION 1. A general diffusion of knowledge and intelligence being
essential to the preservation of the rights and liberties of the
people, the Legislature shall encourage by all suitable means the
promotion of intellectual, scientific, moral, and agricultural
    improvement.

Key phrase by all suitable means…homeschooling is a mean.

    This ruling is anti-liberty!

I think the recent ruling is too much. I don’t know much about home schooling, but I think that in California, homeschooled students have to take standardized tests, just like the tests students in private and public schools, to show how what they know. Also, those students also have to take SAT tests, just like all other students, for college applications. I think those are good enough requirements for homeschooled students. Taking away the option of home schooling should not be done by the state.
