One of the benefits of being the party out of power is that the spot light is on the other party, meaning they are likely to have more scandals and you, as an outsider, can sit back and criticize. So not to miss out on all the fun, I give you the Democratic corruption record so far.
First on the list is Charles Rangel, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee:
Congressman Charles Rangel’s fate hangs in the balance as a report concerning the Ways and Means Committee chairman is being prepared for release in early January.
…He’s under investigation for allegedly using formal letterhead to solicit donations to a school to be named in his honor; helping one donor’s company keep a tax loophole; having unreported income from a vacation villa; and having several rent-controlled apartments at below market rates, including one set up for his campaign operations in violation of state and local laws.
This was quickly followed by Illinois Governor Blagojevich:
FBI agents arrested the governor on December 9 after federal prosecutors alleged, among other things, that he had tried to sell Obama’s former Senate seat. Blagojevich denies wrongdoing and has ignored calls to resign.
Then comes Bill Richardson, New Mexico governor:
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is withdrawing his nomination to be commerce secretary, citing the distraction of a federal investigation into ties to a company that has done business with his state.
Two Democratic officials told CNN the investigation involves a California company that won municipal bond business in New Mexico after contributing money to various Richardson causes.
And last but certainly not least is possibly Hillary Clinton:
An upstate New York developer donated $100,000 to former President Bill Clinton’s foundation in November 2004, around the same time that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton helped secure millions of dollars in federal assistance for the businessman’s mall project.
Mrs. Clinton helped enact legislation allowing the developer, Robert J. Congel, to use tax-exempt bonds to help finance the construction of the Destiny USA entertainment and shopping complex, an expansion of the Carousel Center in Syracuse.
Mrs. Clinton also helped secure a provision in a highway bill that set aside $5 million for Destiny USA roadway construction.
And all of this, only within the last couple of months. One wonders what else is next – is Rahm Emanual, or even Obama himself, somehow implicated in any of this? Lets hope not, but with the way Democrats are running things so far, I wouldn’t be surprised.
If Obama was involved in any of this, what difference would it make? He would just be given another free pass like all the ones he has already been given. He’s gotten free passes on associates, on his birth certificate and on out and out lies that he brushes off as “must have mis-spoken.” Any of this would have gotten a Republican candidate booted out of the race a long time ago. But, since he has promised rainbows and unicorns to so many needy people, that will welcome his socialist agenda, in their eyes he can do no wrong. Like you said, don’t be surprised when the truth finally comes out and the true Obama is revealed to the world. Only then will people open their starry eyes and realize he is as corrupt as any other politician coming out of the sleazy Chicago political machine.
With all this “smoke” one would think that the press would be busily digging for even one little glowing ember of evidence. But no, those that voted for the Dems & Obama don’t care; after all, it is only a scandal if it involves Republicans. I will be greatly surprised if anything at all comes out of any of the above mentioned “indiscretions.” I’m with Eyes of Texas – it’ll be a pass.
Damn dog, maybe they were right. Maybe Obama is the antichrist. Business as usual I say.
What’s the big surprise? I thought everybody pretty much knew both the Democrat and Republican parties are waist deep in corruption.
If I told you about a political party with its own series of national, regional and local patronage mills, a fair share of sweetheart deals with special interest groups, tells the public they can have everything while spending like crazy at the expense of taxpayers who haven’t even been born yet, and does little to nothing to truly address or resolve the problems facing this country, and that holds annual conventions on the taxpayers’ dime, could anyone really tell me which party I was talking about?
George W. Bush has already ruined any urge I might have to vote Republican in the future. If Obama screws up, he’ll probably be the last Democrat I’ll ever vote for.
I like HP the watchdog more than HP the defensive apologist. This is good stuff. Keep it up daddy.
Democrats are no more pre-disposed to throw temper tantrums after losing elections than are Republicans. Likewise – contrary to the recent claims by Democrats – Republicans are no more likely to be corrupt than are Democrats.
These are both nothing more than strategical attempts by one party to propagandize and gain votes by assigning some deep flaw to their opponent. Two years from now, or ten years from now, or twenty years from now, when the Democrats have enough power to abuse, or when the Republicans are losing close elections under shaky circumstances, the roles will be reversed.
It has nothing to do with the faulty philosophy of Liberalism. One side is not virtuous, and the other evil. They are both simply human. Humans don’t like to lose. That’s it. Nothing more.
Democrats will get a pass simply because to the democrat voter it does not matter
William Jefferson (D-LA): Crook, and former congressman in an overwhelmingly Democratic district.
Nava Smith: Demonstrably Wrong.
I think you’re right that people don’t want to associate with the word, but what I did not say, but should have, is that not all conservatives are Republicans. Democrats, even Obama, largely ran as conservatives. Remember Obama promising, many, many times a “net spending cut” and tax cuts for 90% of voters? Remember how many times he invoked the name of Ronald Reagan?
And still McCain came very close to winning — especially before the financial crisis hit and Obama (and the media) were able to inaccurately blame it on Republicans and capitalism.
My point is not that conservatives are all Republicans. Many Democrats consider themselves conservative too. My point (poorly made) is that the country is conservative, and while it may be fooled into putting liberals in power, it immediately corrects that error as soon as they start enacting liberal policy.
